Huntsville Baseball League

As a coach you have the opportunity to be a positive role model for our youth and make significant impacts on their growth and development. This growth is not just limited to their baseball ability but also their development as productive and responsible citizens. Prior to the start of every season there will be a coaches' meeting for both experienced and novice coaches to discuss rules, etc.

Thank you for registering with the Huntsville Baseball League. Once registration closes, 4U and 6U teams will be auto-drafted. 8U-14U players must attend one of the following tryout dates: Tuesday, January XXrd (Schedule TBA) or Thursday January XXth (Schedule TBA). The player draft will be held on Saturday, January XXth (Schedule TBA). Players who do not attend a tryout (excluding protected players) will be randomly assigned to teams following the draft. Only requests for siblings to play on the same team will be guaranteed. All other requests are not guaranteed and will be decided on a case by case basis.

The Huntsville Baseball League is affiliated with DYB, Inc. (4U-12U) and DBB, Inc. (14U); therefore all playing rules and regulations can be found (in order of precedence) in our "House Rules," DYB Rulebook (4U-12U) or DBB Rulebook (14U), DYB Texas Supplement, and finally the Official Rules of Baseball. HBL has also instituted several policies to ensure the safety well-being and all who participate in league activities. All HBL By-Laws, policies and rules can reviewed either under the "About Us" tab or the "Coaches Corner."

• What equipment do we need to buy, and what will be furnished?
  
  As part of your registration fee the league provides each player a jersey and hat. Families are responsible for the following: Bat - Bats must be stamped "USA Baseball". DO NOT buy any bat stamped "USSSA." Cleats Glove Helmet (Faceguards are optional). Pants, Socks & Belt - Your coach will tell you which colors to buy. Please wait to purchase these items until you hear from your coach.
  
  
• When will our team have practices?
  
  Each coach sets their own practice schedule. Once teams are formed and the coach's meeting has been held, coach's will reach out to families and advise them of the practice schedule.
  
  
• When does the season start? How long is the season? What days will we play?
  
  Spring Season generally begins the first weekend of March. Fall Season generally begins in mid-September. During the Spring Season 4U will play eight (8), 6U - 12U will play a minimum of twelve (12) games, and 14U may play up to 20 games. During the Fall Season all divisions play eight (8) games. Games are generally held on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Make-up games will be scheduled as needed. All teams may play up to two games a week and some weekend games during the season.
  
  
• What is "League Age?"
  
  League age is determined based on the age your player will be on April 30th of each year. For example, your child's birthday is August 2016. For the 2024 Fall Season and the 2025 Spring season your player would be "League Age" 8. All players move up to the next age division in the Fall. This allows the players to get experience in their new age division prior to the competitive Spring Season. For example, your child's birthday is August 2015. For the 2024 Fall Season and the 2025 Spring season your player would be "League Age" 9.
